Documents required to get a voter ID in India
To get a voter id card you need two types of document, which you can scan and upload.
Age Proof Document
- Birth certificate issued by Municipal Authorities
- Birth certificate from the Government / Recognised School
- If you are in 10th standard or 10th passed, then 10th Marksheet
- Marksheet of 5th or 8th class if it contains Date of Birth
- Indian Passport
- PAN Card
- Driving License
- Aadhar letter issued by UIDAI

Step by Step process to Apply for voter ID card online:
When you have assembled all the required document, you have to begin the procedure of application online. Follow these mentioned steps to apply for a voter ID card online.
STEP 1: Open National Voter Services Portal (www.nvsp.in) & Click on Apply online for registration of new voter / due to shifting from AC OR You may directly Go to NVSP Form 6 page (http://www.nvsp.in/Forms/Forms/form6)
STEP 2: Select language from “Select Language” Option & then fill all the appropriate details as requested. This includes all your basic information name, age, address, etc.
STEP 3: You’ll also have to upload the relevant documents(age proof and address proof) as mentioned above.
STEP 4: Once you have completed the form, double check everything and then click “Submit” at the end of the page.
STEP 5: Now you’ll receive an email with application number and all the tracking details to track the application status of your voter id card.
It may take almost 30 days to process and dispatch your voter id card to your registered address.
How can NRIs apply for a voter ID card?
NRIs or Overseas Citizens of India can apply for a voter ID online by filling Form 6A on the NVSP website (http://www.nvsp.in/Forms/Forms/form6A).
