Nobody enjoys sitting on hold. Google is now testing a feature that hands that chore to AI. It’s called Call for Me, and it lets Gemini phone a business for you, talk to the person who answers and report back, so you can get on with your day.
What Is Gemini “Call for Me”?
Call for Me is an experimental feature that lets Gemini make routine business calls on your behalf. Gemini can contact a business, introduce itself, navigate automated phone menus, wait on hold, and then speak with an employee. Think of it as a personal assistant who takes over the boring phone work.
What Can It Do for You?
Gemini can check whether a product is available at a store, make a restaurant reservation, reschedule an appointment, or ask a business to keep an item on hold. In short, it’s built for quick everyday errands, not complicated negotiations.
How Does It Work?
You tell Gemini what you need, and it makes the call. Two things keep you in charge:
- Live transcript: You can follow the conversation as it happens and take over at any time.
- Your own number: Calls are dialed directly from your phone using your personal number.
Gemini can also share personal details you approve of. This lets it handle a wider range of tasks than earlier AI calling tools.
Who Can Use It Right Now?
Not everyone yet. Google announced the experiment on September 24, 2026, and access is limited to adults in the United States using a Pixel 11 with a US SIM card. You’ll also need a paid Google AI subscription, the latest Gemini app and the beta version of Google’s Phone app. The rollout is gradual, so meeting the requirements doesn’t guarantee immediate access.
How Is It Different From Earlier Google Tools?
Google has been building toward this for years. Pixel users already have “Hold for Me,” which waits on the line until a person answers, and “Talk to a Live Rep,” which navigates phone systems. Last year Google also launched “Ask for Me,” which calls businesses to ask about pricing or services. Call for Me goes further: it holds a real conversation and pursues the outcome you asked for.
Can You Trust an AI With Your Calls?
That’s the big question. The challenge is whether people and businesses will trust the AI to act accurately, disclose itself clearly and stop when circumstances change. A few smart habits help:
