The Government of India has made it mandatory to link existing Aadhaar numbers with PAN of taxpayers with impact from July 1, 2017. The income division has expressed that “Each individual who has been designated PAN as on July 1, 2017, and who as per the arrangements of sub-area (2) of segment 139AA is required to intimate his Aadhaar number to the principal director general of income tax (systems) or DGIT (Systems)”.
Here’s How to link Aadhaar with PAN:

Yes. The Aadhaar number and PAN can be linked through SMS as well. An SMS should be sent from your registered mobile number to 567678 or 56161 in the mentioned format.

Link Aadhaar with PAN Online:
The linking should be possible through the Income Tax office’s e-filling website www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in. That is not required to log in or be registered on the site. This feature can be used by anyone to connect their Aadhaar with PAN.
To connect go to www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in and click on the link on the left side: Link Aadhaar. Give the PAN and Aadhaar numbers, enter your name precisely as given in the Aadhaar card, avoiding any spelling mistake and click submit. After checking from the UIDAI, the linking will be confirmed.
What to do if the names in the PAN and Aadhaar cards are completely different?
If the name in the Aadhaar is spelled totally not the same as the one in the PAN card, at that point, the linking will come up failed and citizen needs to change the name in either Aadhaar or PAN databases.
